Recent Beauty Buys|Drugstore And Luxury

A few of these products I’ve been using for a while and some are brand new, so I’ll add in mini reviews where I can and other’s will have posts all to themselves. *Warning, this is a long one!

First up are two brushes the Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Face and the Real Techniques Shading Brush. The Bobbi Brown is a very dense buffing brush, it’s uber soft and washes well. I would say that this brush is possibly suited to more creamy/thicker foundations i.e Laura Mercier Silk Creme but it still does a great job with all of my bases and it’s my favourite over the RT buffing brush which has lost it’s density entirely.

The RT shading brush is the perfect brush for smudging out a liner on the lower lash line. Other than that it is way too small on my eyes to be a shading brush so it’s defintely one for more detailed work but very handy indeed!

I’ve only tried out the Bourjois Happy Light Luminous Serum Primer a couple of times so all I can say is that it does give a good glow and I find it a tad more moisturising on the skin than the MAC Moisture Infusion Serum I’ve been recently using. I’m not too sure if it’s breaking me out or not, could be the usual hormones messing with my skin could be this. I’ll get back to you on this one soon.

I’m still trying to get the hang of the Bourjois Bronzing Primer. I want to love it but they’ve described it as a primer and the logic confuses me. Why would you want a bronzer under your base, I dunno.

Anyway I’ve been patting this on the perimeters of my face with the RT Expert Face brush after applying my base (before powder) and it does add warmth (it is very warm, see swatches below) but it just sits a little bit flat on the skin after it sets, I just don’t know if I like it yet. I’m thinking I might try out some cream contouring techniques with it, we shall see..

The two high end foundations I’ve recently delved into are the Estee Lauder Double Wear (shade 1W1 Bone) and the Nars Sheer Glow (shade Gobi). The Estee Lauder I’ve used for around a month and it’s great for when your skin is seriously playing up.

It has very high coverage but doesn’t feel overly heavy on the skin because it is quite thin in consistency. I like to add the glow with an illuminating primer underneath and a decent amount of higlighter because it is pretty matte. The longevity is amazing too, honestly 15hrs+!!

I’ll have to come back to you on the Nars Sheer Glow because I’ve only used it once so far, but I am wearing it in the picture below for reference and the shade matches me perfectly so that’s a relief. It also adds decent coverage not as good as double wear but pretty close and again feel light on the skin.

I’ve given the Rimmel Lasting Finish Concealer (shade Ivory) a good few weeks trial and I am still sitting on the fence. On the one hand the coverage for blemishes is great but the shades they have are just a little too light for the face and on the other hand it works well under the eyes but it’s a little too creamy to stay put unless you set it.

I’m keeping it for coverage but I tend to blend over it with my base brush so that the shade match is a tad better. I think It’s going to be the concealer I reach for when I use a lighter base but not often.

I grabbed the Seventeen Instant Glow Shimmer Brick in Pink Bronze on whim (it was one of those days) and I am actually pretty impressed. It is definitely shimmery and is a little too pigmented to be a highlighter on the cheekbones on my light skin so I’ve been lightly brushing this over any pinky blushers and it adds a lovely intense glow.

I love a good cheek glow so this is a thumbs up from me however if you like your highlighter more subtle this is not for you!

IMG_9353I got this yesterday and I already love it it’s the MAC Eyeshadow in Red Brick. A matte vibrant orangey red which is perfect in the crease or even all over the lid. I’m wearing it in the pic below in the crease to show that it is much more wearable than you realise!

In my opinion it’s a must have for smokey and daytime looks and great for adding a summery warmth to the eyes.

  1. A-ha, I happily see ‘that’ wonderful makeup brush from Bobbi Brown now in your little arsenal! Do you like it? 😉 I used the Double Wear Foundation and found it really lovely, although a bit wintery for me. It’s always nice to mix and match luxury and drugstore brands, sometimes one can find hidden beauty gems even at low prices! Enjoy your haul and looking forward the next looks you’ll be creating and posting. Have a nice eve!

  2. I’m thinking on trying out the Boujois bronzing primer because I’ve heard such great reviews on it and because Bourjois is a sister company to Chanel their products are meant to be quite similar! xxx
